How To Help

The Levy County Schools Foundation offers many opportunities for businesses, organizations and individuals to contribute to enhancing our students’ academic opportunities. Undesignated donations are always welcome, and are used to support high priority programs and initiatives. No donation is insignificant and all donations are tax deductible.

You can help by contributing to:

FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

One of the main objectives of the Foundation has always been to solicit and administer scholarships for Levy County students. The Foundation can assist in setting up a Scholarship of any type and insure that it is awarded as directed.

CLASSROOM GRANTS FOR TEACHERS

These mini grants are awarded to teachers who submit proposals for classroom projects that require additional funds for the purchase of equipment, texts, software or other supplies. The Foundation Payroll Deduction Plan helps fund one such program, the New Ideas for Classroom Education (NICE) Grants. Mini grants can be set up in a variety of formats.

THE LEVY STAR SCHOLARS

This scholarship/mentoring program was set up to help deserving students who might otherwise not have an opportunity to pursue a college degree. Private donations are used to purchase Florida Prepaid Tuition Scholarships for students who are accepted into the program. Each student is then assigned a volunteer mentor for the duration of their high school career. This mentor support is what makes this program uniquely effective, for it gives each student invaluable support to maintain the high standards set by the program.

AN EVENING OF EXCELLENCE

A new program  implemented in 2006 honors the Teachers of the Year, the Educational Staff Professionals of the Year, and the Volunteers of the Year. The recognition includes an annual celebration to which family and friends are invited. Awards and gifts are presented to each honoree. Contributions are always needed to make this night an event to remember.

THE SUPERINTENDENT’S GALA

The first Superintendent’s Gala was held in 2000 and from the outset this has been an outstanding fund-raiser for the Foundation. Now marking it’s eight anniversary, the annual event has raised over $78,000 for Foundation programs and projects. Contributions can be made at four levels: Bronze Patrons, 250-$499; Silver patrons, $500-$999, and Gold patrons $1,000-$2000. Any contributor who gives over $2000 receives special recognition as a Gold Star Patron. All patrons receive complimentary tickets to the Gala and are recognized at the event. This evening is a night to honor those who actively support Levy County schools and also to highlight students, who provide the Gala entertainment and cater the delicious dinner.

BLACK STALLION LITERACY PROGRAM

The program is based on the classic books of Walter Farley and the natural connection between children and horses. The project was conceived in 1999 by Farley’s son, Tim and Mark Miller, owner of Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction in Kissimmee, Florida.

Friends for more than thirty years, Tim and Mark share a common interest in encouraging children to read. Tim knows the influence his father’s books have had on millions of children, and Mark grew up and remains in the company of horses -- a winning combination for a program designed to motivate children to read.

The fourth grade program continues the legacy of reading by providing each child with their own copy of The Black Stallion, a universally recognized children’s classic as well as an introduction to the critically acclaimed 1979 movie of the same name.

The Program concludes with a trip to the live equine theatre show of Arabian Nights and the Black Stallion.

The Levy County Schools Foundation is proud to present this program to all fourth grade students for the 2nd year.  The books are currently be shipped out to the schools and the field trip is scheduled.

2007 funding for this program was provided by Perkins Financial Group, Inc. and Heath Davis Company, Inc.  The foundation received many wonderful letters with pictures from the students attending the show.  They truly enjoyed this experience and were very grateful for the opportunity to attend.

This year’s program is again being sponsored by Perkins Financial Group, Inc., along with The Barfield Group.  WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

STUFF THE BUS

In September of 2006 we kicked off our Stuff the Bus campaign.  Five buses were stationed throughout Levy County and with the help of  local churches, newspapers and businesses, flyers instructed the community to come by and Stuff the Bus with school and classroom supplies.  The items collected were distributed to teachers to benefit the students of Levy County.  It was a big success and we look forward to making this an on-going project.

LICENSE FOR LEARNING

By purchasing a “License for Learning” auto tag, you can contribute to the Foundation, which receives $20 for each tag sold in Levy County.
